Praise for Paris Movie Walks

Chicago Tribune

"This excellent guide to some of the most celebrated Paris-set movies is a delightful way to see the city through cinematic eyes." More on Paris Movie Walks review ...

A Travelers Library

"I was going to say «You don’t have to be a movie fan to enjoy this book.»”  But who among us is NOT a movie fan? And who has seen a movie set in Paris and NOT wanted to glide right over the Seine?" More on Paris Movie Walks review...

About.com Paris Travel

"Cinephiles traveling to Paris will find a wealth of entertaining knowledge about Paris cinematic history in this relatively slim but well-researched volume." More on Paris Movie Walks ...

Europe A La Carte

I’m not a great movie buff but I thought that movie themed self guided Paris walks sounded like a great idea. Paris is already renowned as being one of the best place to visit in Europe, so it would be interesting to add a movie inspired angle to your Paris sightseeing. More on Paris Movie Walks review ...

Orlando Sentinel

"Michael Schurmann's delicious Paris for movie-lovers' travel book, Paris Movie Walks. (www.intrepidtraveler.com) sends us through up to Montmartre, up the Eiffel Tower (Rush Hour III, too many BETTER movies to count), to the Musee D'Orsay, formerly the Gare (train station) D'Orsay, and points out the arresting sights that many a filmmaker (50 feature films a year are shot there) found so irresistible that he or she HAD to put that setting on film.

"Unlike many a movie travel book, this one feels like a vacation many of us might actually want to take. We're seeing the sights, doing the city, and maybe we set aside one afternoon for just a walk that re-creates the romance of a favorite film (Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke, taking a boat ride, finishing in the Promenade Plantee, flirting Before Sunset)." Eye for Film

This is a rare treat, a guidebook that's a pleasant read even well out with the area that it covers. Taking as its central focus (so to speak) depictions of Paris on the silver screen, it engages and informs with a series of walks that take in a variety of landmarks as well as some sites likely only to be of interest to dedicated film scholars or die-hard fans. That's not to speak against it, for the intent is clearly two-fold - to show the Paris seen in film, and to highlight the films that show Paris. More on Paris Movie Walks review...

Ferdy on Films etc.

"...a just-published book that movie lovers can use to view location shots of many of their favorite films. For example, Walk 4: Around Montmartre allows one to take in the opening vista of the city at the beginning of Bob Le Flambeur.... More on Paris Movie Walks review...

Cinebanter

"What I like about the book (and what faithful Cinebanter listeners will find refreshing) is that the author spares no reserve about spoiling film plots. If you haven't seen the movies he's discussing, you'll probably want to catch up via Netflix before you depart (plus, what's the fun of walking by something you have no frame of reference for anyway?). That said, just reading his different descriptions of places and characters (specifically Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke's lovers from BEFORE SUNSET) had me longing to literally follow in their footsteps and re-live some of the greatest moments I've experienced as a viewer." Film Intuition

"Although unfortunately the book doesn't come with frequent flier miles, French lessons, or a first class plane ticket-- for film buffs-- it's a wonderfully unique travel guide that will easily fit into your carry-on bag. And more importantly, for those of us who don't exactly foresee a trip to the City of Lights in our 2009 budget at this moment-- writing as someone who just reviewed it, having never set foot in the country but has seen most of the films mentioned-- it was a great armchair travel puzzle you could play in your head putting Gene Kelly next to Jackie Chan and Matt Damon to piece together the geography in your mind."  More on Paris Movie Walks review ...

Invisible Paris

I'm always interested to hear how other people see Paris, so I was very happy to be contacted recently by the publishers of a new book on the city. For some people Paris is defined by its architecture whilst for others it is written out in the pages of a book, but for writer Michael Schurmann, the city is one large film set.
